Home owner's insurance
When considering the best home insurance coverage for you, it's important to know what a standard home owner insurance policy covers:
* Home owner's insurance provides coverage for the structure of your home. This covers the repair or replacement costs associated with damage or loss by any disaster listed in your policy. Ensure you have enough home owner insurance coverage to rebuild your home.
* Home owner's insurance also covers the contents of your home. We recommend completing a thorough home inventory to determine the proper amount of home owner insurance coverage you require. Download a printable home inventory form and take pictures or video of all your belongings.
* Home owner's insurance also includes liability protection. This part of the policy covers you against lawsuits for bodily injury or property damage caused by you, your family members or your pets.
* Finally, most standard home owner insurance coverage includes the cost of living away from your home if it's damaged by an insured disaster.
Home Insurance
There are three levels of home insurance coverage available to you – Standard, Broad and Comprehensive. Here are the coverages at a glance:
* Your house. Our home insurance protects your house and outdoor structures, such as a garage, gazebo, dog house.
* Your contents. Whether you warm up on your treadmill or heat up in your gourmet kitchen, it’s covered.
* You. Your personal liability protection coverage is also available.
Comprehensive Home Owners Insurance in Canada This type of home insurance is also known as "All Risk" coverage. This means that all risks are covered, except for those that are specifically excluded. This coverage usually applies to the building and contents. But check your policy to be sure. The most common exclusions that you need to know about are flooding and earthquake.
Limits for contents are also lower in this type of policy.
Broad Form Home Insurance This is a hybrid between Comprehensive and Named Perils coverage. This policy gives comprehensive coverage on the dwelling building but named perils coverage on the contents.
Basic Home Owners Policy Some insurers offer very basic or “No Frills” coverage. These policies are very limited in their coverage. They may only be offered if the dwelling to be insured does not meet the minimum standards of the insurer. Often there is a physical problem that needs to be addressed as it increased the risk of a claim. The premium may not be lower than a regular policy so it is wise to fix the problem as quickly as possible.
