What kind of health insurance should my son or daughter purchase?
All students are required to have health insurance while on exchange. Students are responsible for assessing and purchasing international health coverage and ensuring that they have enough coverage while they are away.
In addition, many countries now have mandatory health insurance policies for exchange students. We recommend that students check their partner university materials or go to host country's consulate or embassy website for more information on mandatory health insurance.
There are three types of health insurance
Basic
Basic coverage is provided by the British Columbia Medical Services Plan (MSP) or another provincial plan. Students must be covered by MSP, or another provincial equivalent, to be eligible for an extended insurance plan.
Extended
Extended insurance plans cover dental care, eye care, prescription drugs, and more. This type of coverage is only valid if the student has basic provincial coverage.
What are student exchange programs?
Student exchange programs provide students with study, work, and volunteer opportunities to build global citizenship skills and knowledge; to live their discipline; and to take advantage of academic excellence at our partner institutions.
Go Global: International Learning Programs are Senate-approved and are designed to create opportunities for outstanding students to fulfill UBC degree requirements as they immerse themselves in the academic and social lives of different regions in the world. Mobility opportunities are available for undergraduate and graduate students, both internationally and in Canada.
A medical emergency or sudden illness while studying in Canada could ruin your school year. And without adequate coverage, the medical expenses could ruin you and your family.
All students are responsible for providing their own health care insurance and covering their own medical costs including ambulance transportation except when students suffer from an injury as defined by CIP. Students should have their own provincial health care insurance card and keep it with them at all times.
Getting good student car insurance quotes tip one – There are several different things that car insurance companies look at when making a decision on the rate for a person or individual. A pretty big factor when making this decision is age, and in this case, the younger that the person is, the higher the rate will also be. Getting good student car insurance quotes tip two – There are companies though that do offer something called good faith discounts that pertain to college students that have and are maintaining a particular grade point average. In general, it’s possible to get better rates on auto insurance depending on how high a students grade point average is. Getting good student car insurance quotes tip three – A lot of the students that go to college either live in their own home or they are off campus living in a apartment and do round-trip commute daily between both the school and the home.
Student Health Insurance
The most regular expenses that are covered by supplemental insurance are prescription drugs and trips to the dentist. It is important to visit the dentist for cleanings and a check-up every nine months. Moreover, as a student, you are no doubt involved in various activities including sports; consequently, your chances of injury are higher. So are your chances of picking up a sickness due to a virus that is sweeping through the school. Unexpected medical bills added to school costs can entail financial stress for you and your parents.
If you are a parent who is looking for a student health insurance policy for your son or daughter, you have two options: an independent health insurance policy or the standard health insurance policy offered by the school. An independent health insurance policy usually covers the student year-round and not just during the school semester. Also, an independent individual health insurance policy for college and university students will likely offer more coverage options then the policy offered by the school.
