University Health Insurance Ontario

University Health Plan

By now we know that the University Health Insurance Plan or (UHIP) is a mandatory health insurance plan which is for all international students enrolled in an Ontario University.  This plan is intended to ensure that all international students have basic health care coverage while studying in the province of Ontario.   As an international student or an exchange student you need to take up this insurance either automatically online or through a trusted broker company.  UHIP coverage may also be extended to your dependents, should you choose to enrol them.

UHIP is comparable though not equivalent — to the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP), in that UHIP and OHIP provide coverage for the same services. UHIP terms of coverage can be found at the UHIP Summary of Coverage page of this website.  For information about OHIP, please visit the Ministry of Health website.
