Party store set to reopen after explosives found

An Etobicoke party supplies store is set to reopen Monday after the discovery of some suspicious packages prompted a closure before Halloween.

Police are trying to determine why and how explosives were found at the Amazing Party Store at 923 Oxford St., near the Gardiner and Islington Avenue.

Members of the Toronto Police canine unit, bomb disposal squad and the Emergency Task Force were called to the costume and party supplies store after three suspicious packages were found there Friday and Saturday. Authorities confirmed two of those packages contained explosives.

The store’s owner estimates he lost about $500,000 in sales due to the closure.

Investigators are still trying to pin down a motive and a suspect in the case.
